Having a healthy, balanced diet is one of the most important things for a model. It will not only help you keep in shape but it will also help improve your skin and give you more energy.
We would recommend always eating a balanced diet ensuring that you include all food types in your daily eating habits even if you are trying to lose weight. This includes containing fat in your diet as this is a food type that we all need to survive and be healthy, however keeping this to unsaturated fat and limiting your intake would be recommended. The NHS provides useful diet advice for weight loss and for maintaining your weight. Remember that you should pay attention to what you eat at all times and not only if you want to lose weight.
Tips for a healthy diet:
1.Keep your diet varied and include all food types.
2. Eat fresh fruit and vegetables - it is recommended that you try and eat at least 5 portions a day.
3. Increase your intake of wholegrain foods (eg replace white bread with wholemeal bread).
4. Reduce your salt intake - this can be done by not eating ready meals and not adding salt to cooked food.
5. Keep a regular eating habit - try and eat your meals at a similar time each day to get your body into a routine.
6. Avoid eating late at night - if you eat a meal too close to the time that you go to bed your body will not be able to digest the food properly.
7. Eat slowly - this is a great tactic in controlling your portion sizes as it takes time for your food to reach your stomach so if you eat too quickly you will find that you often eat more than you need.
8. Limit your intake of saturated fats - try using a vegetable oil such as olive or sunflower for cooking rather than an animal based one such as butter.
9. Keep your alcohol intake within the recommended limits (maximum of 2-3 units per day for a woman and 3-4 for a man).
With this it is also worth remembering that eating should not be a chore and should be something you enjoy.
