MENTAL HEALTH BENEFITS OF SENIOR EXERCISES

By undertaking a program of senior exercises you will increase your energy and flexibility, reduced pain, improve your posture and physical strength and appearance, and enjoy many significant mental health benefits.

IMPROVING CONFIDENCE

It is common for some seniors to lose their sense of confidence as they age. This is primarily due to the fact that many seniors experience a reduced level of cognition and decision-making ability. Others become less confident because they fear they may be physically and mentally unable to function independently. Senior exercises go a long way toward preventing and postponing age-related physical and neurological disorders. A state of optimal health helps seniors maintain their confidence in themselves and their own ability to care for themselves and maintain their independence.

DECREASING ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION

The connection between mind and body is a powerful factor at any age. However, as we grow older, it's impossible to ignore how the decrease in bodily functioning is intricately tied to how our minds function, both neurologically and emotionally. As we age, certain neurochemical brain transmitters naturally decrease. These neurochemicals are responsible for everything from memory to emotions. Just as we've learned that our memory and cognition can be improved by senior exercise, our emotions can also benefit from maintaining or beginning a fitness routine.

Many seniors grow anxious and/or depressed as they age. In the same way that a lack of confidence can eat away at our ability to believe that we can live independently, studies indicate that decreased physical functioning, lower levels of hormones and neurochemicals, and a lack of social interaction can erode our emotional well-being. Studies indicate that maintaining even
moderate levels of senior exercise can enable adults prevent feelings anxiety, depression, and loneliness throughout their senior years.

OTHER BENEFITS OF SENIOR EXERCISES

Aside from the physical and mental health benefits of senior exercise, it's impossible to ignore how our physical condition affects those around us. Our families, friends, and relationship partners each hope to have us in their lives for as long as possible. Our children may not be able to deal with the burden of an unhealthy parent. And our spouses are likely to suffer emotionally
if we become ill or injured. With this in mind, it's important to maintain our health and physical vitality to ensure that we are able to participate in life. For many years to come, senior exercises will help us share time with our friends, support our children, chase after our grandchildren, and experience life with our spouses. Individuals who view exercise as a necessary part of their daily routines will be rewarded with years of healthful vitality and youthful independence.
