Six Ways to Control High Blood Pressure,

By: Terry Stanfield

High blood pressure can be a dangerous enemy if left unattended. Many people who suffer from it are completely unaware they even have any problems with their blood pressure until something happens and they pay the doctor a visit. Managing high blood pressure is really not that difficult to do as long as you know the signs of any impending problem. Controlling your high blood pressure once you find out you have a problem with it can be the difference between life and death in some cases. This is one of the most dangerous health problems around and it is also one of the least obvious health problems.

You don't always need prescription medications to control high blood pressure. But you should learn some of the ways that you can control it on your own. It will just take a little time to begin controlling your high blood pressure. Managing high blood pressure comes next. So here are a few things you can do for yourself without resorting to meds.
As you gain weight you gain a higher chance of being at risk for increased blood pressure problems. So all you need to do is watch your weight and take off a few of those extra pounds.
Start eating healthier. A great way to watch what you eat is by keeping a diary for a week or a month and then looking back and seeing where you need to make changes.
You should consider boosting your potassium intake. Potassium is the knockout punch for sodium. Sodium increases blood pressure while potassium will lower it. Be sure to get it from natural foods and not supplements.
You can cut back on the amount of caffeine you take in. Caffeine causes a rise in blood pressure and the more you drink the higher the pressure level can get.
A big help would be to eliminate as much stress in your life as you can. First you need to look at what is causing you the most stress and then decide how you can eliminate it.
And one of the best things you can do is create a system of support. You have friends and family all around you and that is the most powerful ally in the fight against hypertension.
We all look at life different and those with high blood pressure don't usually see what's going on right in front of them until something bad such as a stroke or a heart attack occurs. That needs to change and people need to be informed. You may not get a second chance at life and hypertension might just see to it.
