Sinning Saints and Dr. Tony Evans,

By: Daniel LaLond Jr..

The evangelical, Christian leader Dr. Tony Evans believes that, "committed Christians may fall into sin, but a carnal Christian bathes in, he has the mindset, motivation and methodology of sin."

Believers bathing in sin? Some may not think it possible for Evans to promise paradise to such "sinning saints." According to Dr. Evans though, there are "saints who act more sinful than sinners even though they are on their way to heaven." Further, Dr. Evans promises paradise to Christ rejectors and even unrepentant murderers. Paul's warning in Romans 6:16 comes to mind: "Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?"

Tony Evans plainly promises paradise to those alleged "sinning saints" who bathe in sin. Reader, ask yourself, what career criminal or devil doesn't do likewise? Perhaps heaven will be full of devils if Dr. Evans dogma is accurate. If Romans 6:16 and the following were all the holy writ had to say on the matter, which they are not, these scriptures would be plenty to label Tony Evans' sinning saint notion as heresy. Consider:

Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. 1 John 3:9-10

In spite of Tony Evans' cries to the contrary, a sinning saint who "bathes in sin" will be lost. The salvation offered through the gospel of Christ is salvation from sin rather than salvation in sin. As contrary to pop religious sentiment as this may seem inspiration teaches: "He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning." 1 John 3:8

Freedom from sin's debasing chains, namely, the only freedom offered in the gospel, is good news for all who are tired of their bondage. For professing Christians who want to have their cake and eat it to, however, the gospel is not good news. With a heavy heart Paul wrote to the Philippians:

For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things." Phil. 3:18-19

Those professing "carnal Christians" who take refuge in the words of Tony Evans are not headed for paradise, sadly, they are "enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction." The "carnal Christian" of Dr. Anthony T. (Tony) Evans is a myth. It is a theological good-night song quietly lulling the people of God into spiritual slumber and destruction.
