Rakhi Sawant was born on 1978 in Mumbai to a Marathi family. Rakhi grew up in a conservative family. As a child, she studied in Goklibai School, Vile Parle and later studied Arts at Mithibai College, Mumbai.
Due to oppositions from her father’s side upon Rakhi pursuing a career in acting, her parents had to separate eventually with her mother fully sporting her daughter’s career.
Rakhi Sawant is known for her sultry looks and ‘Item Girl’ image.
She had a knack for dancing since her adolescent years. Apparently she was offered her first dancing role opposite Govinda in movie Joru Ka Ghulam [2000]. At that time she was only 14 years old! But it was her appearance with Zayed Khan in his debut movie Chura Liya Hai Tumne in 2003 in the song Mohabbat Hai Mirchi that rose her to fame.
Rakhi Sawant soon followed it up by her super hit remix video Pardesiya. Later she appeared in the reality show Big Boss [2006] which was an adaptation of popular U.K. show Big Brother. Although, she didn’t won the show at the end, but became one of the most popular contestants of the show well liked by the public.
She also appeared in some other reality shows after this including, Nach Baliye [2007] and Ye Hai Jalwa [2008]. She has taken out her songs album too which wasn’t received well by the audience.
Rakhi Sawant is well known for her publicity stunts and controversies. In May 2006, she was booked for obscenity by the Kolhapur Police, after a stage show in the city. She was let off with a warning. A month later, she was again in the news when she filed a molestation case against pop singer Mika, younger brother of Daler Mehndi, who forcibly kissed her at his birthday party, where she was a guest.
The actress has well carved a niche for herself in television realty band wagon. She is currently participating in 9X show Four Two Ka One and judging Zee’s kids talent show Chota Packet Bada Dhamaal.
