London Bierfest in October 2008,

By: Michele De Capitani

Like every Autumn, this year too (from the 8th until the 10th), beer lovers with a passion for Bavarian atmosphere meet at Old Billingsgate Market, in the heart of London, in a vast Victorian building (which has hosted the London fish market until 1982 and in which, after a renovation, parties and important events take place) to enjoy a drink and some good food with friends and colleagues.

The London Bierfest was initially meant as the ideal place where groups of colleagues could take a break from the long office hours, and its popularity has been growing year after year: if the first edition of the London Bierfest attracted more or less 500 visitors per evening, in the last editions this number has increased in a significant way (organizers speak about approximately 1,700 visitors per evening in the 2007 edition). And the working teams, as well as groups of friends, have the possibility to totally experience the mood of the feast by booking a 10 person table for one evening (hurry up if you want to have a table, the first evening is already sold out!); with 1,150 or 1,250 pounds, you and your friends and colleagues will have an all included package which will permit you to live an extraordinary experience, including: access to the bierfest, full cloakroom and security, experienced event staff in attendance, and above all a ten person table which will grant you an ideal position from where you will watch and take part in the events. The London Bierfest, indeed, will also host a number of entertaining moments, such as the performance of the traditional Oompah band and of other music groups and dancers (girls will dance wearing traditional Bavarian clothes). If you book a table you will also have the possibility to be served with traditional Bavarian food (pretzel, knodel and sausages, to name only a few of the delicatessen which will be served), and obviously with a limitless quantity of beer!

In particular, the queen of the festival will be Paulaner Beer, the famous Bavarian brewer which is identified with Munich and has become, so to say, the symbol of the city’s lifestyle. We could say that, thanks to the Bierfest, London, which is not well-known for the good quality of its beer, becomes for few days the favourite place for all beer lovers, who have the possibility to choose among a wide range of different types of Paulaner beer. Everyone will find its favourite beer, from the classic lager to the hearty dunkel, from the weizen to the Oktoberfest Bier, a red-gold beer exclusively brewed for the Munich Oktoberfest!
For some days the Bierfest turns a part of London into a sort of small, German settlement, which takes inspiration from Bavarian atmospheres and traditions to create an event where visitors can find amusement and revelry. If you would like to live a typical Bavarian experience, and in the same time you wish to stay at the centre of one of the most dynamic and multicultural cities in the world, which as such can offer a lot to its visitors, you cannot miss this event!

If you plan to go to London for the Bierfest, we suggest that you stay some days more: in this way you will grab the chance to visit in a better way one of the most attractive cities in Europe. A visit to the National Gallery, a walk on the Tower Bridge or some shopping at the Portobello market are certainly not to miss!
