Recently we stated that we didn't think universal health care was a possibility anytime soon. At least the single payer type. It seems like our country's health system is too large and complex to ever be able to make the switch.
This doesn't mean that mandating that all Americans have medical coverage is not the goal, still. Everyone is concerned about the future of our health system. A lot agree that our system needs to be reformed on how health care is administered as well as possibly thinking of universal coverage.
In essence, the idea is universal health insurance, instead of universal health care. It seems that this is quite possible in our future. The Democrats are now in control in the White House and Congress. Add the support of the health insurance industry, itself and that makes the pot thicker.
A Los Angeles Times article writes that there will, of course, e lots of debates over the universal health insurance law, but tough times are making it an opportune time to mandate coverage.
"Possibly more important than policy agreements is the fact that the political forces now are in alignment," said UC Berkeley political scientist Jacob Hacker.
