Know what you do know, and, even more importantly, know what you don't.
Knowing what you already know can propel you forward in any area. On the other side of that equation, knowing what you don't know will give you an extra "edge" that you will have to have to get even better results as an online business owner, and as a person.
So, what exactly is "knowing what you know, and knowing what you don't know"?
It's exactly that.
When you know what you are good at, what your talents are, and where your strengths lay, you have a list of things that you can do, and do effectively. You know what tasks you are best suited for, and, most importantly, those that you can do yourself and not pay someone else to do.
Now, how about knowing what you don't know?
When you learn about ways to accomplish your goal, through first hand experience or through reading, for example, there are always a few things you have to do that you realize you aren't so good at.
This is knowing what you don't know.
These tasks are the ones that get you stuck and keep you from progressing forward. Acknowledging that these aren't your strong points will make you much more effective in the long run, and a lot more happy.
If you have know what it is that you aren't so good at, and it is not a thing you must do on your own, give it to someone else! You'll be better off working on those things that you are good at instead of wasting time trying to figure out how to do something.
This can be very difficult to do for some people though, especially online business owners.
We get so caught up in doing everything ourselves, that soon we don't have any energy for the business.
We take care of that which we know, we try to perfect that which we don't know, and pretty soon, the business is the second most important thing because we haven't quite mastered graphic design!
Trying to know everything is crazy, and, even if you are good at it, there is probably someone you can pay that can do it better than you and for less cost (the time you spend doing these things can be put to better use).
Of course, when you're just starting off, you probably won't have the money to hire all of the people you need, but you should still be aware of your strengths and abuse the heck out of them. Know what your weak points are and learn what it is you HAVE to learn.
Make some money, then give some of that to someone else to do it, so you can make A LOT of money.
That's the difference between a weekend in the Bahamas, or a weekend in your office passed out in front of the computer with a small amount of extra money in the bank that could otherwise afford you some help, and a plane ticket.
