Become a Singer and Performer,

By: Elizabeth Schohl

If you want to present an excellent performance, you may want to know several crucial things to prepare yourself. First of all, get yourself mentally and physically prepared so that your voice is ready, your body is free of stress, and you feel mentally positive to face an audience. Memorize the words of all your songs thoroughly so you feel very confident and positive about yourself.
Keep in mind that if you want a cheat sheet to help you along for your performance, give yourself permission. When someone sings it does not look good if the singer forgets or loses track of the song lyrics, as people are not impressed when that happens. Drink lots of water so that your voice is in good shape, as a mouth that isn't hydrated will not be good for your singing.
Learn to listen to yourself singing through recording yourself, decide what you need to to do to build your performance skills. If you have a recording of a band or orchestra in the background, try to practice so that you sound naturally comfortable with the background music. Pinpoint parts in the music that don't sound right or natural, and keep practicing until you get it right.
Most outstanding singers have a special quality that singles them out to a crowd, such as movement or a special way of singing to keep a audience mesmerized. Discover that special something that you might have that could keep an audience listen to you. For example, if you have a special look, capitalize on it and look good for your performance.
If you have to perform on stage, keep in mind that you need to avoid raising your voice by not screaming or yelling. The truth is, your vocal cords cannot take that kind of wear and tear and you may damage your cords which could strain your voice. The human voice is fragile, and that includes singers who take care of their voice.
If you have any common sense don't even try to eat foods full of heavy spices or drink carbonated beverages before you go on stage, because you certainly don't want the audience to hear a loud burp or see you with spicy food backing your throat. Eliminate alcohol before any performance as it gives a drying effect on your vocal cords, which is not good before a performance. You want to keep your throat hydrated with some tea with lemon and honey.
There are so many fine singers that constantly criticize and scrutinize themselves. Even if they receive very positive reviews after a performance, some gifted and popular singers still over analyze and dissect every performance. Some singers are very strict with guarding the quality of their voice so that they avoid problems associated with harming their vocal cords.
Keep in mind if you want to get some experience singing as performer, start in a karaoke bar or party where people you don't know make comments about your singing. Or you can start singing in church, where people might start to recognize you because of your singing. Many famous singers got their start in local theater productions and church performances.
