So in this era of global terror and the rise in gun culture in London, you would be let off for concluding that this would be along the lines of such subject matter. But no, I'm not talking about the kind of shooting you're undoubtedly thinking about...
Shoot Experience are an exciting and original photography events company who, believe it or not, are niched in photographic treasure hunts! One of there big events is based in the Tate Modern gallery in London. It is used as a corporate team building exercise (as well as for the general public) albeit a long and creatively demanding one from what it seems.
People get there in the morning and are placed into groups, each team being given a camera. They are then given a set of 10 themed clues which they follow throughout the city with the task of coming up with their own answers through the visual medium of, yes, you guessed it, camera pics. They’re also given a deadline to return later that evening where the pictures are judged and prizes are given out for the best and most original pictures. Participants can chill out back at the Tate with a drink whilst the winners are picked. They even get to have their work showcased at an exhibition at the museum!
The fun filled event is a winner with corporate companies and the general public, and one where in the words of Shoot Experience themselves is "breaking boundaries, improving communication and providing an accessible and artistic platform for discussion and interaction". And who are we to argue with their track record of outstanding revues in The Metro, The London Paper, London Lite, The Times, Timeout, Contact, Reach as well as an array of other online review sites.
The company is the brain child of South African born Brett Jefferson Stott who created the company in 2006. Brett is a photographer, musician, web designer and entrepreneurial extroadinaire who used to have his music featured on UK National radio as well as his photos in Time Out and the SA Times amongst other well known magazines. Through his passion for photography he has created the Shoot experience to ‘Encourage people to rediscover their everyday environment and lives through photography’.
The Shoot projects are not just exclusively at the Tate Modern and are held all around London, other parts of the UK. The company have recently gone global too with events in Toronto, Delhi and Ouaga.
